new painting

Just started this painting tonight. It's the most cheerful painting I've done. It's also the first I've done in about a year. Winter vacation in California sure was nice.

painted-wall animation

Now this is cool. Also, clever. Also, creepy. (But less creepy than cool + clever.)

This is a painting!

David M. Lenz is the First prize winner Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition 2006, National Portrait Gallery, Smithsonian institution.

This portrait, Sam and the Perfect World looked like a photograph until I got my nose right up next to the monitor. It is stunning.

Cosmonaut painting

Yuri!

We made a painting for our living room, based on some Soviet art for Russian space exploration. Yuri Gagarin was the first Russian in space, a cosmonaut, so we added his name at the bottom. I must admit I only did the broader strokes of painting, as detailed painting of the edges was difficult for me. I did put in the tiny stars too.

Two greats meet

Hugo and I love some of Laura Owens' monkey paintings. Hugo loves The Believer. Here, they met in 2003. How lovely.

Tyra tee

My amazing sister Nancy taught me how to make t-shirts with freezer paper and fabric paint. Tyra N. Saurus' uniform is starting to take form.

this large wall sculpture i've been working on

I have this large wall sculpture I've been working on, and then not working on, for a few weeks. After a dry spell I just now got some ideas for how to continue it. Thought I'd post what I'm working on just because I felt like it.

paint

Today I painted one kitchen chair "sun" yellow and my steamer trunk "apple-a-day" red.

Laurie's been wanting one chair in the house that is yellow. Whoever feels sad can sit in the yellow chair, she says.

The steamer trunk is big and old. My mother bought it for me as a kid for a toy chest. Now it's so red, so so so red, I can hardly stand myself. I'll stock it with art supplies after we move this Friday.

gesso and finger nails

Alpha has introduced me to the glory of gesso. I love it. I want to sculpt with it and layer it and let it dry and crack.

Jackson Pollock

You can be Jackson Pollock. Go see.

I sent this link to Laurie (how many?) years ago. I bet I scored major 'cool friend' points when I did that. *wink*
