I started a new piece of music. The tentative title is Women with Suitcases, inspired by the latest Almodovar movie.

sighting
(I can't believe I forgot to tell you.)
I heard, and then saw Tay Zonday, the Chocolate Rain guy, in the parking lot of Menards about a month ago. He was talking on his cell phone and I knew that voice immediately. I scanned and scanned the parking lot. Alas! He appeared, and in plain view, I watched him walk through the sliding double doors. It was definitely a celebrity sighting.

Solar powered horse and Joanna Newsom
I cannot take my eyes off this motorized, solar-powered paper horse walking in tune to the most amazing Joanna Newsom.

P.S. If you ever find yourself not knowing what to get me for a birthday or holiday, get me some Joanna Newsom. I heart her.

mashup of all 25 top songs in 2007
Thanks to Stevie B's Google Reader shared items, I recently subscribed to a blog called boing boing where I read about a mashup of the top 25 tracks of the year. The post says, "The raw material is pretty poor quality (Top 40 has never been brilliant, but it's at a real low this year) but Earworm spins some gold out of the straw." Check it out here.
Lemons to lemonade? Maybe not quite. But it is pretty interesting.

White Stripes Holgas
The White Stripes partnered with Lomographische to produce limited edition Holga cameras. The Meg is so cute!.
I find it a bit strange that a band would make custom film cameras. Is film so old that it's become quaint?
Thanks to Amy Stein for first writing about this. Amy, I heart your blog.

Next pop star obsesson
Hugo and I have old school pop star obsessions.
We went nuts over Janet Jackson in 2004.
This year we've gone gaga for Prince.
I'm still completely in love with Prince (Nothing Compares 2 U, Prince), but... I'm starting to wonder if it's time re-discover our next icon?
I think the only criteria for a pop star obsession is that we missed the craze when it happened the first time around (even though, I'd like to note that Prince is in his prime right now).
Who should it be next?
Should we make pop star art? I'd like to write fan letters.

what do they contain?
I found a tapeworm project on mnartists.org today. I wonder what is recorded on the tapes. Where do you think they are now?

Uptown! You can set your mind free!
Prince is hot in this town right now and I love it. Even though I can't afford the first two shows today and didn't want to wait in line all day for tickets to the third show, I LOVE hearing his name everywhere. Everyone's buzzing about Prince.
I hum in falsetto and daydream.

didjeridu
My neighbor has a frequent visitor who likes to play his didjeridu in the concrete and stone stairwells in my building. I recorded him with my cell phone voice recorder this morning.

Studio 360 - cardboard records
This week's Studio 360 podcast is really great, and there's a story about 30 minutes into it that reminded me of Hugo. It's about a guy who made impeccable fiction soul records and album covers. The records have grooves carved into them and everything. They were found in a flea market and the original artist, Mingering Mike, was discovered and interviewed. It's really great!

Theramin 101, please?
Gallagher, theramins have come up lately in my conversations with Laurie. I did a rudimentary job explaining how they work. Truth is, I don't really get it. Can you give us a little Theramin 101?
My gmail advertisement section listed an online Theramin sale today. Funny.

too weird not to post
After much talk with Ameila about a theremin, I thought this was just too odd not to go here.
