Hugo and I have old school pop star obsessions.
We went nuts over Janet Jackson in 2004.
This year we've gone gaga for Prince.
I'm still completely in love with Prince (Nothing Compares 2 U, Prince), but... I'm starting to wonder if it's time re-discover our next icon?
I think the only criteria for a pop star obsession is that we missed the craze when it happened the first time around (even though, I'd like to note that Prince is in his prime right now).
Who should it be next?
Should we make pop star art? I'd like to write fan letters.

Prince

A very select group of people in the world knows what I am about to reveal. Now I am coming out with it, hesitantly but nonetheless shamelessly.
I have a raging, squirming, melodramatic thespian inside of me. My thespian gets obsessed with various pop culture icons once in a while and acts them out in front of the bathroom mirror. If I had cats I'd be one of those people to dance in front of them in my skivvies.
I'm obsessed right now with Prince! Yes, that sexy, sassy little man from Minneapolis! If I had the means, I'd choreograph a whole dance routine to his hit songs and videotape myself and put it on youtube. I have it in my head right now. I started to type the details of my imagination but I got shy. It's way more creative and weird than any of his music videos, let me tell you.
Two years ago I did this with Janet Jackson. Gallagher, you can out yourself if you want about your own Janet phase. All I'll say is that we got into her so much that we created a slide show of our cheesy self pictures and synced it to a song on JJ's Rhythm Nation album. Undoubtedly, we were re-creating some unfulfilled 6th grade desires we denied ourselves when we were actually in 6th grade. Just like I am *right now* with Prince.
I'm posting a picture of the universetwins just so I can use it in our profile.

For you... by mail
David Horvitz is offering to do things for you that can be bought and documented by mail. Among my favorites are:
- For every $1 you give me I will look out at the Pacific Ocean for one minute for you. If you give me $1 I will watch the ocean for one minute. If you give me $345 I will watch the ocean for 345 minutes. I will send you the exact times and location I did this, as well as a photograph. If you give me under $10 I will send you this via email. If you give me more than $10 I will send it via postal mail.
- If you give me $250 I will read the Little Prince in front of the New York Stock Exchange on Wall Street in the middle of a work day. I will send you photograph documentation of this. (or: if you give me $1000 I will buy as many copies of the Little Prince as I can and give them away to people leaving the New York Stock Exchange after a days work)
What are your favorites?

Uptown! You can set your mind free!
Prince is hot in this town right now and I love it. Even though I can't afford the first two shows today and didn't want to wait in line all day for tickets to the third show, I LOVE hearing his name everywhere. Everyone's buzzing about Prince.
I hum in falsetto and daydream.

hang out with the log lady
In 2004, it was Janet Jackson.
In 2007, it was Prince.
This year, I think we're switching media. Hugo and I seem to be approaching our next duo cult obsession: Twin Peaks episodes, in order.
Feel free to join us: link. However, you can't watch the hour-and-a-half long pilot on cbs.com, and it's really worth starting there. You can Netflix it, though. Do it - the pilot is really informative and great and creepy and bizarre and will make you think about the log lady for days to come.
Log lady.

The Story of my Cats
We got a new kitten, and it has been interesting integrating her with our family. We have 2 other cats. One is about 15 years old, and the other is my little prince. He's about 5 years old. He's so spoiled, so I wasn't sure how he would take having a cute little kitten in the house. Here are some photos that show their budding friendship.

His Matilija poppy was mutilated. He didn't get the job. His story didn't get published. He didn't get accepted into the writer's retreat. He couldn't learn to play the sonatina right. His nose could only get air through the left nostril. His bottom lip bled. His finger nail was wedged in his crooked teeth. He couldn't sing a song in front of another person. He couldn't dance without drinking. He couldn't walk without slouching. He couldn't use the graviton machine at the gym without nearly breaking his leg. He got the worst time running a 5K race in four years, and was not tired. He couldn't get the cashier to laugh at his driver's license photo. He couldn't stay awake until his boyfriend got home. He couldn't get his kitten to climb onto the bed when he was tired. He couldn't make the lid on his piano stop rattling. He couldn't get California poppies to grow. He forgot to water the watermelon seedlings, and they died. He bought too many books, and only read pieces of them. He forgot to do laundry. He forgot to book airfare to Toronto. He forgot to email. He couldn't speak Spanish fluently. He couldn't remember much German. He didn't go to the bookstore and buy the new novel by one of his favorite authors. He had to debate levels of authority with a boring manager. He had ash all over his car because of a fire, even though he just washed it four days ago. He forgot if his sister's birthday was the fourteenth, or the fifteenth. He remembered to mail a birthday card to a friend he hardly spoke with. He remembered to stop at the STOP sign. He remembered to put the trash cans back on the side of the house. He didn't fall asleep because he felt guilty for taking naps. He piled his work clothes on the floor in his office. He wore the shirt he slept in. His socks had holes in them. His beard needed shaving. He needed to start dinner. He had no idea what to make for dinner. He wanted to listen to songs by Prince. He wanted to go away. He wanted to visit Prague in the winter. He wanted to freeze on the breeze, his hands glued to the rail with ice. He wanted to be remembered by having a stamp issued in his memory. He wanted to still have potential. He wanted to break something (but not his leg). He forgot to flush the toilet. He forgot to be creative. He forgot to write after two days. He went to bed when the movie started.
